November 22nd Meeting Highlights
By Keith Cooper
In November, the Fingerlakes Macintosh User Group returned to a venue it had used
once a few years back. Goff Communications, an area full-service advertising agency,
was gracious enough to host our last meeting on Friday, the 22nd.
We were fortunate to have long-time member Dick Kirkoba in attendance. Friday night
events ordinarily conflict with his schedule, but this time he distracted his wife
and slipped out to join us. Dick picked our collective brains on subjects from OS
X Jaguar to Sherlock.
While the word for November was “off-topic” and my creative networking cost us some
delays, we were able to get to a few of our agenda points that night.
Keith Slater brought along Harry Potter and his son, Jonathon, who is a wizard at
the game, ably demonstrated it for us. Check out the game for yourself at Aspyr
Software http://www.aspyr.com/.
Kathy and I discussed some of the finer points of .Mac’s offerings. The five biggest
provided by Apple’s Internet service are mac.com e-mail accounts, iDisk storage options,
Homepage web page authoring/hosting service, Backup archiving software, and Virex
virus protection software. It’s true that this service isn’t for everyone, but if
you think Apple’s revision of the former iTools product meets your needs, you can
learn more at http://www.mac.com/.
The meeting’s atmosphere was informal, the conversation light and informative, and,
I’ll have to admit, the cookies were quite tasty. Thanks, Lori.
Thank yous go out to Goff Communications for the use of the conference room, Lori
(for the chocolate-chip cookies), Jonathon Slater (gaming-expert-in-training), and
to Kathy for trying to maintain order.
