May 11th Meeting Highlights

User Group Meeting Saturday, May 11, 2002
Must be the weather is just getting too nice. We had a very small turnout of 4 members
(2 of which were myself and Don) Tom Bidwell had a presentation ready on SpellTools
and some very good uses for it. Here is the information he had prepared and passed
out to everyone at the meeting.
Spell Tools 1.3.3 (Freeware) and Updater 1.4 is found at: http://www.MosaicComputing.com/newertech/
Even though this site says it is closed, you can still connect to the "Downloads"
link at the bottom for the FREE SpellTools 1.3.3 (OS7-8.6) and SpellTools 1.4 updater
(needed for OS9)
Review of SpellTools Demo:
- Find webpage from which you wish to copy info. Select/copy info (Command-A,
Command-C or select by dragging cursor over area to copy).
- Open up a new Appleworks document. Paste copied info (Command-V)
- Open SpellTools. The SpellTools icon will flash once over document. Click one
time on document to bring SpellTools Toolbar to front.
- Select all test (Command-A). Then click on SpellTools screwdrivers. (Usually
the top two options condense the text the most).
- Finally make any other deletions, font size changes, columns, etc. Save.
Tom took an original 5 page web document and condensed it into a very readable 1
page 3 column document. Thanks Tom, for the demonstration.
I then showed how to turn a document into a PDF document in OSX. Go to print, then
preview, save a PDF.
How to turn off the "Are you sure you want to empty the trash" warning
in OSX.
Finder, Preference and uncheck the "Show warning before emptying the Trash"
We also touched on Filtering email in mail.app

User Group University (July 16) Again only 2 per group is allowed. We have never
attended this as we get there the afternoon of this event.

Apple's User Group Advisory Board will again be offering User Group
University New York, a one day conference for Apple user group leaders.
User Group University will take place on Tuesday, July 16, 2002 at the
New Yorker Hotel (481 Eighth Ave @ 34th Street).
